SIGHT FIRST PROGRAM

Lions Club of Chennai Skyline embrace the mission of Lions Club International to strengthen eye care systems in underserved communities, enabling them to fight blindness and vision loss and assist those who are blind or visually impaired.

As one of the Clubs most notable programs, Sight First Program efforts to fight the major causes of preventable and reversible blindness and provide services to persons who are blind or have a visual impairment. This is accomplished through the support of eye health care delivery systems, training and infrastructure development.

Our Club organize Sight First projects in partnership with local health authorities, eye care professionals and other non-governmental organizations.  Lions are actively involved in project management, fund raising, advocacy, coordination of outreach events and publicity.  Sight First projects employ one or more of the following strategies :

• • Delivering eye care services – Free Eye Screening, Surgery Camps, Free Intra-ocular lens implants
  • Training eye care professionals and management personnel
  • Upgrading the infrastructure of existing eye care systems
  • Improving access to education and rehabilitation for persons who are blind or visually impaired
  • Increasing public awareness of importance of eye health
  • Journey for Sight – Fund Raising Event

When we see the smiles of the people we help, it goes straight to your heart.  No riches in the world can buy the feeling of happiness that comes from helping others.  In Lions Club of Chennai Skyline’s 20 years history, we have made great strides against visual impairment and blindness, we have :

• Performed over 2,000 cataract surgeries.
• Distributed over 6,000 pairs of prescription eye glasses.
• Diagnosed and treated over 500 cases of diabetic retinopathy.

These accomplishments would not have been possible without the generous support of 75 Lions in our Club.
