In observance of International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Lions Club of Chennai Skyline, in collaboration with Dhaanish Ahamed College of Engineering, Padappai, Chennai and Communitree, organized a large-scale beach cleaning drive at Marina Beach, Chennai.
Environment is one of the global causes of Lions Clubs International, and this initiative reaffirmed the Club’s commitment to protecting natural ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices.
The drive was led by Club President Lion 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗸𝗮𝗿, who guided members, their cubs, and over 200 students and faculty volunteers from Dhanish Ahamed College of Engineering in the cleanup activity. Volunteers combed the beach for litter and debris, collecting several bags of trash that gave the shoreline a much-needed facelift. Refreshments and breakfast were provided to all participants as a gesture of appreciation.
Speaking about the initiative, Club President Lion 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗸𝗮𝗿 emphasized that community-led actions such as this not only restore cleanliness but also build awareness about the urgent need to preserve coasts, oceans, and marine life. By working together, citizens can make a meaningful impact in combating pollution, reducing plastic waste, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
The event stood as a strong reminder that protecting the environment is not the task of a few, but the shared responsibility of the entire community.
